Emily, I am sorry that the estrogen-banishing drugs are so exhausting. I am sending loads of sweet and gentle energy your way--as Sarah put it below, may that June goodness stay with you as long as possible. xo

Thank you, Susan. Yes, the drugs are serious business. And they are also very effective (from what I’ve been told).

Fingers crossed and all sorts of love coming your way....

May the June goodness stay with you into your July and onwards and ease your bodily adjustments . Golly that estrogen is powerful stuff

It is indeed! Thank you sooo much Sarah.

This was beautiful to read, but I am sorry you’re going through this. I hope one day we can treat cancer without resorting to inducing sudden menopause.

Emily Conway's avatar

You and me both! What’s funny is that I’m 54 and seem nowhere near going through menopause 🙄😳. Ah well, I’m doing it whether my body wants to or not.

Emily, reading your words is just so soothing and easy. And I really appreciate that. 🙏

Just curious; will your twins be getting matching sweaters or did you choose a different color for each of them?

Love to you. 🥰

Emily Conway's avatar

Thank you, Don! Different colored sweaters! They picked the colors. I was one of those twin moms who never dressed my kids the same. I was big on them knowing that they were separate individuals who happened to be born at the same time. Having said that, if they had picked the same color, I would have knit two matching sweaters:)

I would have taken the same approach if I had twins, Emily. Respect for individuality! 😊

You should know, you are one!

Don Boivin's avatar

Oh yeah, that’s right ha ha! Are your twins fraternal? sorry if I’ve asked you that before.

Emily Conway's avatar

Ha!:). We don’t know…they had separate placentas, but they could be identical if the egg divided very early. That may be for info than you want! They look a lot alike (but have very different personalities). A genetic test would tell them, if they want to find out at some point.

That’s actually fascinating, Emily! I’ve been meaning to read a good book about twin studies for years, but I haven’t gotten to it yet. Have you ever read anything?

Don Boivin's avatar

Yeah, she was a pretty stressed out mom lol. She had one more baby two years after me, so she had five babies under the age of four! Then she waited five years and had three more. (Actually she didn’t wait; she had a couple miscarriages in the interim.)

Emily Conway's avatar

Her body was probably taking an enforced break with the miscarriages (I don’t know this of course!). There’s so much in all of this around women and babies and birth control and belief (lots of b’s!). And we are still struggling with this. Having said all of that, I don’t know your mom’’s story, and I don’t want to assume anything! I just know my own.

Dad was from a devout Catholic farming family with two strict parents and ten kids (included a nun sister and a priest uncle!) and mom converted. That said, and though we went to church every Sunday, I never heard them say they truly respected the rule against birth control. I can’t exactly say why they had so many kids. Perhaps they were just afraid to try it; stigma or ignorance or something. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, it’s complicated and who knows!:)

I take that same little yellow pill, but I take my before bed. I was brought to tears reading your description of what this little pill does to your body. I feel so seen and understood.

Emily Conway's avatar

Ah, Rachel. I see you. And I’m very grateful you also see me. Bedtime seems like a better idea. I’m going to ask my doctor about that.

Thank you for being here.

Thank you for the update. Hearing the details is so very helpful. Happy trip to Montana. I'm thinking about you.

Thank you, Janisse. I am really looking forward to MT. It’s my place, and I have not been back in quite awhile.
